Growing up as a dancer, I wish I had taken my training more seriously. For all the joy it brought me to be on stage, it also gave me great pain. My knees, my legs - countless injuries in the name of dance. Dance is both art and sport. My technique classes were important, as was my diet, but I failed to treat myself as an athlete with proper rest and care, strength training and core building.
By the time I was 20, three doctors had already told me to take it easy and give up the dancing. I dedicated myself to other creative endevaors like writing and photography. It was a satisfactory outlet for my artistic energy, and I started frequenting the gym to encourage my athletic development. Sports like bouldering and rock climbing appealed to me because they required technique, practice and a balletic type grace.
I haven't been lucky enough to be successful with my writing. I have been blessed with two legs that work (mostly) and a career that allows me the free time to stay active and healthy. And I've also discovered what great training can do for me - mentally and physically - as I conqure aging and a quarter-life crisis.
This blog is a collection of my workouts and my thoughts and even some of my recipes as I work toward my fitness goals. I hope that maybe my rambling might inspire you to develop an athletically fit and healthier you.
